RESILFIRE looks at how wildfires affect the power and communication infrastructure that communities rely on, and how existing social inequalities shape who bears the brunt of service disruptions. The research combines three strands:
Building a joint model of wildfire behaviour, infrastructure performance, and social vulnerability, grounded in real data from wildfire-prone communities.
Using that model to explore infrastructure design approaches that stay more functional during heatwaves and wildfire emergencies.
Testing these approaches on relevant case studies, translating lessons from the US context to Europe, and sharing results through accessible web-based tools.
Alongside the research, the fellowship supports multidisciplinary training in wildfire and infrastructure simulation, and aims to build awareness of wildfire risk among researchers, infrastructure managers, and emergency planners through publications, conference presentations, and public engagement.
